Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Loader Operator to join our dynamic team at our plant yard in Calabar. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of various types of loaders, primarily for sand loading, material handling, and general plant yard duties. This role is critical to maintaining smooth operational flow, ensuring materials are moved and organized effectively to support ongoing construction projects. The Loader Operator will perform daily inspections, maintain equipment in good working order, and adhere strictly to all safety protocols and company policies. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate front-end loaders, wheel loaders, and other heavy equipment safely and efficiently to load and unload sand, aggregates, and other construction materials.
  • Perform daily pre-operation checks, routine maintenance (e.g., fluid levels, tire pressure, cleaning), and report any defects or malfunctions promptly.
  • Ensure accurate loading of materials into trucks, hoppers, and production lines according to specifications and production schedules.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe plant yard, including proper storage of materials and waste management.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and environmental regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, dispatchers, and other team members regarding operational status and material requirements.
  • Assist with minor repairs and maintenance tasks on equipment as required, under supervision.
  • Maintain accurate records of materials moved and daily activities.
  • Comply with all traffic laws and regulations while operating equipment within the plant yard.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years) operating heavy equipment, specifically front-end or wheel loaders.
  • Valid heavy equipment operator's license or certification.
  • Strong understanding of loader operation, safety procedures, and heavy equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
  • Excellent spatial awareness and coordination.
  • Strong commitment to safety and ability to follow instructions diligently.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting minor equipment issues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Trade test certification in heavy equipment operation.
  • Previous experience in a sand quarry, aggregate plant, or construction material yard.
  • Familiarity with GPS-enabled machinery.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
