Key Responsibilities

  • Assist patrons with locating books, periodicals, and other library materials.
  • Manage the circulation desk, including checking books in and out, and processing new registrations.
  • Re-shelve library materials accurately and efficiently, maintaining the organization of the collection.
  • Provide basic reference services, directing patrons to appropriate resources or staff members.
  • Maintain the general orderliness and cleanliness of library premises.
  • Assist with processing and cataloging new acquisitions under supervision.
  • Support library programs and events, contributing to community engagement initiatives.
  • Handle routine administrative tasks and data entry as required.

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite, internet navigation).
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • A genuine passion for books, learning, and public service.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new systems and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Higher School Certificate (HSC) or equivalent.
  • Some experience in a customer service role, whether paid or voluntary.
  • Demonstrated interest in library science, history, or literature.
  • Ability to speak both English and French fluently.
