Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, proofread, and format legal documents, correspondence, pleadings, and reports.
  • Organize and maintain physical and electronic client files, ensuring accuracy and accessibility.
  • Conduct preliminary legal research using various databases and resources.
  • Schedule appointments, meetings, and court dates, managing attorneys' calendars.
  • Manage incoming and outgoing mail, emails, and phone calls, directing inquiries appropriately.
  • Assist with the preparation for trials, hearings, and client meetings.
  • Process billing, expense reports, and other administrative tasks as required.
  • Coordinate with courts, clients, and opposing counsel to facilitate communication and information exchange.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all client and firm information.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Legal Assistant or in a similar administrative role within a legal setting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to conduct basic legal research.
  • Discretion and strict adherence to confidentiality protocols.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Problem-solving aptitude and ability to work under pressure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A recognized Paralegal Certificate or Diploma.
  • Knowledge of Jamaican legal procedures and court systems.
  • Experience with legal practice management software (e.g., Clio, MyCase).
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
