Job Description

Absa Bank Mozambique is seeking a highly motivated and diligent Entry-Level Legal Advisor (Assessor Jurídico) to join our esteemed Legal and Compliance team in Maputo. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the legal team in conducting comprehensive legal research on a variety of topics, including banking regulations, corporate law, and commercial contracts.
  • Draft and review legal documents, correspondence, opinions, and reports under the guidance of senior legal counsel.
  • Support the preparation of legal briefs, pleadings, and other submissions for litigation or regulatory matters.
  • Assist in ensuring the bank's compliance with all applicable local and international laws, regulations, and internal policies.
  • Provide administrative support to the legal department, including managing legal documentation and maintaining accurate records.
  • Liaise with internal departments to gather information, clarify legal queries, and provide basic legal guidance as directed.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments in Mozambique and assist in assessing their potential impact on the bank's operations.
  • Participate in internal meetings and training sessions to enhance legal knowledge and understanding of banking operations.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized institution.
  • Fluency in English and Portuguese (both written and spoken) is essential.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of integrity, discretion, and ethical conduct.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior internship experience in a legal department, law firm, or financial institution.
  • Basic understanding of banking law, financial regulations, or corporate governance.
  • Demonstrated interest in a career within the financial services industry.
  • Active membership or eligibility for membership with the Mozambican Bar Association.
