Key Responsibilities
- Maintain impeccable cleanliness and sanitation standards for all kitchen areas, including floors, walls, ventilation hoods, and all food preparation and service surfaces.
- Thoroughly wash, sanitize, and properly dry all kitchen utensils, cookware, dishes, glassware, and cutlery using commercial dishwashing equipment or approved manual methods.
- Systematically store all cleaned items in their designated, organized locations to ensure easy accessibility and maintain order.
- Assist diligently with the unloading, inspection, and proper storage of food and supply deliveries, ensuring strict adherence to FIFO (First-In, First-Out) principles for inventory rotation.
- Operate and meticulously maintain dishwashing machines, waste disposal units, and other cleaning equipment safely, efficiently, and according to manufacturer guidelines.
- Proactively monitor and promptly report any observed maintenance issues, equipment malfunctions, or potential safety hazards to the kitchen management.
- Provide essential support to the culinary team by assisting with basic food preparation tasks such as washing, peeling, and chopping ingredients when required.
- Adhere strictly to all local, national, and company health, safety, and hygiene regulations, as well as established company policies and procedures.
- Manage waste disposal and recycling processes efficiently and responsibly, in full accordance with environmental guidelines and established company procedures.
- Ensure a continuous, uninterrupted supply of clean dishes, cutlery, and glassware is readily available for all restaurant service periods.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 1 year) as a Kitchen Steward or in a similar support role within a high-volume food service environment (e.g., hotel, restaurant, catering).
- Strong, demonstrated understanding and unwavering adherence to hygiene, sanitation, and food safety principles.
- Ability to work efficiently, effectively, and calmly under pressure in a fast-paced and demanding kitchen setting.
- Exceptional physical stamina, including the ability to lift and carry heavy items (up to 25kg), stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a methodical approach to tasks.
- Basic communication skills (ability to read, write, and speak English to follow instructions and communicate with team members).
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively as an integral part of a diverse team.
- Reliable, punctual, and possessing a strong, proactive work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or its equivalent vocational qualification.
- Possession of a valid Food Handler's Certificate or completion of relevant hygiene and sanitation training courses.
- Prior hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting commercial dishwashing equipment.
- Familiarity with various kitchen cleaning chemicals, proper dilution ratios, and safe handling procedures.
- Previous work experience within a Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) or high-volume casual dining environment.
