Excel Place Hotels & Suites is seeking a dedicated Kitchen Porter to join our bustling culinary team. This essential role ensures the smooth and hygienic operation of our kitchen, directly supporting our chefs and ultimately contributing to the overall satisfaction of our room and board guests. As a Kitchen Porter, you will be instrumental in maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, tidiness, and organization across all kitchen areas. You will be responsible for washing crockery, cutlery, pots, pans, and other kitchen equipment, as well as keeping the kitchen floors, walls, and work surfaces spotless. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate dishwashers and wash all kitchen utensils, pots, pans, plates, cutlery, and glassware by hand or machine to hotel standards.
  • Ensure all kitchen areas, including floors, walls, work surfaces, and storage areas, are consistently clean and tidy.
  • Assist chefs with basic food preparation tasks such as peeling, chopping, and washing ingredients, as directed.
  • Receive and properly store food and supply deliveries, ensuring correct rotation and hygiene.
  • Manage waste disposal, including emptying bins, separating recycling, and maintaining cleanliness of waste areas.
  • Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and hygiene regulations and procedures within the kitchen.
  • Maintain a clean and organized pot wash area, ensuring equipment is properly maintained and stored.
  • Support the culinary team with any ad-hoc duties to ensure smooth kitchen operations during busy periods.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to the Head Chef or Supervisor immediately.

Required Skills

  • Physical stamina and ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy items, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly regarding cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow instructions diligently.
  • Basic understanding of kitchen hygiene practices and food safety principles.
  • Reliable, punctual, and a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Proactive and able to take initiative in maintaining a tidy workspace.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience (even informal) in a kitchen, hospitality, or cleaning role.
  • Knowledge of basic English language to understand instructions.
  • A food handler's certificate or willingness to obtain one.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work under pressure.
  • Secondary school leaving certificate or equivalent.
