Key Responsibilities
- Wash dishes, pots, pans, and cutlery thoroughly, ensuring they meet rigorous hygiene standards.
- Assist with the unloading and proper storage of deliveries, ensuring accurate rotation of stock to minimize waste.
- Maintain impeccable cleanliness of all kitchen equipment, work surfaces, walls, and floors throughout shifts.
- Dispose of waste and recycling materials properly and regularly, adhering to environmental guidelines.
- Support chefs and culinary staff with basic food preparation tasks such as washing, peeling, and chopping when required.
- Ensure all cleaning chemicals are stored safely, labeled correctly, and used in accordance with health and safety protocols.
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and hygiene regulations, including HACCP principles.
- Report any equipment malfunctions, breakages, or safety hazards to a supervisor promptly to ensure a safe working environment.
- Assist with the setup and breakdown of catering areas or food service stations as needed.
- Perform general kitchen duties as assigned by the Head Chef or Kitchen Manager.
Required Skills
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a demanding, fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Strong attention to detail and an unwavering commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
- Exceptional reliability and punctuality are essential for team coordination.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy items (up to 50 lbs) safely and stand for extended periods during shifts.
- Basic understanding of kitchen hygiene, food safety, and workplace safety practices.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues.
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Kitchen Porter or in a similar culinary support role.
- Knowledge of different cleaning chemicals and their safe and effective usage.
- Food Handler's Certificate (or a willingness to obtain one shortly after hiring).
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays, to meet operational needs.
- A positive, can-do attitude and a genuine interest in the food service industry.
