BDO Guyana is actively seeking a highly motivated Junior Accountant to join our vibrant Finance Department located in Coverdale Crossroads, Georgetown. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the accurate preparation and posting of journal entries, ensuring compliance with established accounting principles and company policies.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly bank reconciliations, as well as general ledger account reconciliations, identifying and resolving any discrepancies promptly.
  • Process and verify expense reports, vendor invoices, payroll data, and other financial transactions in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Support the senior accounting team in the meticulous preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
  • Maintain organized and detailed financial records, ensuring proper documentation and filing for all transactions and accounts.
  • Assist with internal and external audits by gathering and providing necessary documentation and clear explanations.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of accounting processes and procedures, identifying areas for efficiency and accuracy enhancements.
  • Perform ad-hoc accounting tasks and special projects as required by the Finance Department leadership.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
  • 1-2 years of demonstrable experience in an accounting or finance support role.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced spreadsheets, pivot tables, VLOOKUP functions).
  • Solid understanding of basic accounting principles (e.g., GAAP/IFRS).
  • Exceptional attention to detail and unwavering commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for clear financial reporting and interaction.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with recognized accounting software packages (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Sage, Microsoft Dynamics).
  • Active pursuit of a professional accounting designation (e.g., ACCA, CPA, CMA).
  • Previous internship or work experience in an accounting firm or a corporate finance department.
  • Familiarity with Guyanese tax regulations and statutory reporting requirements.
