Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and meticulous Janitor to join our team at Progressive Foods in Greater Portmore, Portmore. This critical role is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, sanitation, and overall tidiness of our entire supermarket facility, including the sales floor, back-office areas, restrooms, staff break rooms, and exterior premises. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in maintaining a safe, hygienic, and welcoming environment for both our valued customers and hard-working employees.

You will be responsible for meticulous cleaning tasks, proper waste management, and ensuring all areas meet our stringent health and safety regulations. Key Responsibilities
- Perform general cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and waxing floors in all areas of the store.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms thoroughly, ensuring they are stocked with necessary supplies.
- Empty trash receptacles and manage waste disposal, including recycling where applicable.
- Clean windows, glass surfaces, and mirrors to ensure a streak-free finish.
- Dust and wipe down surfaces, fixtures, shelves, and office equipment.
- Maintain cleanliness of staff break rooms, ensuring a tidy and sanitary space for employees.
- Report any maintenance issues, damages, or safety hazards to management promptly.
- Ensure all cleaning supplies and equipment are stored safely and correctly.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations and company policies.
- Conduct periodic deep cleaning tasks as assigned.
- Assist with seasonal cleaning projects and special events as needed.
Required Skills
- Proven ability to operate various cleaning equipment (e.g., floor buffers, vacuum cleaners).
- Strong attention to detail and thoroughness in all tasks.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Excellent physical stamina and ability to perform repetitive tasks, lift moderate weight (up to 25 lbs), and stand for extended periods.
- Reliability and punctuality.
- Basic understanding of cleaning chemicals and their safe use.
- Ability to follow instructions and safety guidelines meticulously.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience (6+ months) in a janitorial or commercial cleaning role, preferably in a retail or food service environment.
- Knowledge of health and sanitation regulations specific to food retail.
- Valid Food Handler's Permit.
