This position involves a diverse range of responsibilities, including but not limited to, conducting regular and systematic inventory counts, meticulously reconciling any discrepancies found, preparing incoming merchandise for display on the sales floor, and assisting with strategic stock rotations. Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, unload, and accurately process incoming merchandise shipments, meticulously verifying contents against invoices and purchase orders.
  • Organize and store all merchandise in designated locations within the stockroom and sales floor, ensuring proper labeling, accessibility, and adherence to safety standards.
  • Conduct regular physical inventory counts, cycle counts, and audits to maintain highly accurate stock records and identify potential issues.
  • Investigate and diligently reconcile any inventory discrepancies, pinpointing root causes and implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Assist with preparing merchandise for the sales floor, including unpacking, assembly if required, pricing, and assisting with display setup.
  • Safely and efficiently operate manual and power equipment, such as pallet jacks, as required for moving and organizing inventory.
  • Maintain a consistently clean, organized, and safe receiving area, stockroom, and designated inventory zones.
  • Collaborate proactively with sales associates and department managers to address inventory needs, facilitate product availability, and manage special orders.
  • Process damaged, defective, or returned merchandise according to established company policies and procedures.
  • Utilize handheld inventory devices and computer-based systems for accurate inventory management, data entry, and reporting.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Minimum of 6 months of experience in inventory, retail, warehouse operations, or a similar field
  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
  • Proficiency in basic mathematical calculations and fundamental computer skills (e.g., MS Office Suite, inventory software familiarity)
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted and perform physical tasks including standing, walking, bending, and reaching for extended periods
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively
  • Effective verbal communication and strong interpersonal abilities to work collaboratively with a diverse team
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with inventory management systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, internal systems)
  • Forklift certification or prior experience operating similar material handling equipment (e.g., reach trucks, order pickers)
  • Prior experience in a big-box retail or home improvement store environment
  • Proven ability to adapt to changing priorities and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
