Job Description
Alcon Nigeria Limited is actively seeking a highly skilled and experienced Instrumentation Engineer to enhance our technical team in Port Harcourt. This pivotal role is dedicated to ensuring the peak performance, reliability, and precision of critical instrumentation systems across our operational plants. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on professional demonstrating profound expertise in calibration, intricate troubleshooting, routine maintenance, and seamless integration of advanced control systems including Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. Your responsibilities will encompass the meticulous execution of planned preventive maintenance schedules, swift response to corrective maintenance requirements, and providing crucial support during new equipment installations and commissioning phases. Your technical acumen will be instrumental in safeguarding operational efficiency, maintaining stringent product quality, and ensuring strict compliance with all safety and environmental regulations. Key Responsibilities
- Perform accurate calibration, testing, and adjustment of process instrumentation (e.g., pressure, temperature, flow, level transmitters, control valves) in accordance with established procedures and industry standards.
- Execute preventive and corrective maintenance activities on various control systems including DCS, PLC, and SCADA platforms, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex faults in instrumentation loops, control systems, and associated electrical components.
- Interpret and update P&ID drawings, loop diagrams, and other technical documentation.
- Participate in the commissioning and startup of new instrumentation and control systems.
- Ensure all work adheres to company safety policies, procedures, and relevant industry regulations.
- Generate comprehensive reports on calibration results, maintenance activities, and system performance.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to identify and resolve instrumentation-related issues.
- Support the selection, specification, and procurement of new instrumentation and control system components.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior technicians and engineers as required.
Required Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of proven experience as an Instrumentation Engineer in an industrial plant environment (Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Manufacturing).
- Strong practical knowledge of calibration techniques and equipment for various process instruments.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and maintenance of DCS (e.g., Honeywell, Emerson), PLC (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell), and SCADA systems.
- Ability to read and interpret P&ID diagrams, electrical schematics, and loop drawings.
- Solid understanding of industrial safety standards and practices.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certification in instrumentation or control systems (e.g., ISA CCST).
- Experience with specific brands of control systems used in the Oil & Gas industry.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices for industrial control systems (ICS).
- Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) like SAP PM or Maximo.
- Postgraduate degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
