Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage field engineering activities for assigned projects, ensuring compliance with design specifications, safety regulations, and industry standards.
  • Conduct thorough site visits, inspections, and surveys to assess project feasibility, identify potential risks, and monitor progress effectively.
  • Provide expert technical support and guidance to construction crews, maintenance teams, and contractors, fostering efficient project execution.
  • Interpret complex engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documents to facilitate accurate field implementation.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues promptly and implement effective, data-driven solutions in the field to minimize downtime.
  • Prepare detailed engineering reports, comprehensive project documentation, and regular progress updates for stakeholders.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all safety protocols, environmental regulations, and company policies to maintain a secure work environment.
  • Collaborate proactively with project managers, designers, and various stakeholders to achieve project objectives within scope and budget.
  • Participate actively in the commissioning and testing phases of new electrical equipment and systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous process improvement and efficiency gains in all aspects of field operations.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in field engineering, particularly within the power utility or related heavy industry sector.
  • Strong understanding of electrical power systems, transmission, and distribution networks.
  • Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in high-voltage electrical environments.
  • Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills with a proactive approach.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a diverse team in dynamic field conditions.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for technical reporting and team interaction.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel frequently to various job sites within the region.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) designation.
  • Experience with SCADA systems, industrial control systems, and automation technologies.
  • Knowledge of project management principles and proficiency in project management software (e.g., Primavera P6, Microsoft Project).
  • Familiarity with relevant local, state, and national electrical codes (e.g., NEC, NESC).
  • Direct experience with high-voltage equipment, substation design, and maintenance procedures.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation) for design review and modification.
