Are you a skilled Equipment Operator with a passion for safety and precision? Hydro One is seeking dedicated and experienced Equipment Operators to join our dynamic team in Lincoln Park, Chicago. This pivotal role involves operating a variety of heavy machinery essential for the maintenance, construction, and repair of vital utility infrastructure. Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy equipment including digger derricks, bucket trucks, excavators, backhoes, trenchers, and other construction and utility vehicles.
- Perform pre-operational checks, routine maintenance, and cleaning of equipment to ensure optimal performance and extend lifespan.
- Assist in the loading, unloading, and securing of equipment and materials for transport to various job sites.
- Execute tasks such as trenching, excavating, backfilling, grading, lifting, and setting utility poles, transformers, and other infrastructure components.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, industry regulations, and environmental guidelines.
- Collaborate effectively with ground crews, linemen, and other team members to complete projects efficiently and safely.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and staking sheets to ensure accurate execution of work.
- Identify and report any equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or project issues to supervisors promptly.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, maintenance activities, and completed work.
- Participate in safety meetings and training programs to enhance skills and awareness.
Required Skills
- Proven experience operating a diverse range of heavy construction and utility equipment (e.g., excavators, backhoes, digger derricks, bucket trucks).
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
- Thorough understanding of heavy equipment operation, safety procedures, and preventative maintenance.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in various weather conditions and challenging terrains.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment for self and co-workers.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- Experience working in utility construction or electrical distribution environments.
- Certification in specific heavy equipment operation (e.g., NCCCO for cranes).
- First Aid and CPR certification.
