Job Description
We are actively seeking a dedicated, energetic, and highly reliable Kitchen Porter to join our exceptional culinary team in Ikosi, Kosofe. Key Responsibilities
- Maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene across all kitchen areas, including thorough washing of dishes, pots, pans, and utensils, as well as regular cleaning of work surfaces, floors, walls, and all kitchen equipment.
- Operate commercial dishwashing machinery safely and efficiently, ensuring all items are properly cleaned, sanitized, and stored in their designated places.
- Assist diligently in the receiving, unpacking, and proper storage of all food and supply deliveries, ensuring accurate stock rotation and organization within dry stores, refrigerators, and freezers.
- Provide essential support to the culinary team by assisting with basic food preparation tasks as directed by chefs, such as peeling and chopping vegetables, portioning ingredients, or preparing garnishes.
- Regularly empty kitchen bins and responsibly dispose of waste, strictly adhering to the hotel's recycling and waste management policies and procedures.
- Ensure all kitchen storage areas, including dry stores, fridges, and freezers, are kept immaculately clean, tidy, and well-organized at all times.
- Promptly report any maintenance issues, equipment malfunctions, or safety concerns to the Head Chef or Kitchen Manager to ensure swift resolution.
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and hygiene regulations and procedures (e.g., HACCP) within the kitchen environment, prioritizing food safety at all times.
- Assist with the breakdown, cleaning, and reassembly of kitchen equipment at the end of shifts, during changeovers, or after special events.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the kitchen management team to ensure the smooth, efficient, and continuous operation of the entire kitchen.
Required Skills
- Strong understanding and practical application of kitchen hygiene and safety standards.
- Proven ability to work effectively and efficiently in a dynamic, high-pressure, and fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Good physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy items (up to 25kg) comfortably and stand for extended periods.
- Demonstrable reliability, punctuality, and a consistently strong work ethic.
- Capability to work both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as a valuable member of a team.
- Basic verbal communication skills in English to understand and follow instructions.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a proactive, hands-on approach to maintaining cleanliness.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 6 months of previous experience as a Kitchen Porter, Kitchen Assistant, or in a similar kitchen support role within a reputable hotel or restaurant setting.
- Familiarity with the operation and cleaning procedures of various basic kitchen equipment.
- Basic knowledge of HACCP principles and food safety regulations.
- Ability to accurately follow verbal and written instructions.
- Willingness to learn and grow within the culinary department.
