Key Responsibilities
- Greet and assist customers in a friendly, knowledgeable, and professional manner, identifying their needs and offering appropriate solutions.
- Provide expert advice on product selection, usage, and home improvement projects, guiding customers through their purchasing decisions.
- Actively seek out customers on the sales floor, engaging them in conversation and inquiring about their needs and projects.
- Process transactions accurately and efficiently using the point-of-sale (POS) system, including handling cash, credit, and debit payments.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked department, ensuring products are easily accessible and displays are attractive.
- Assist with merchandising, including setting up promotional displays, rotating stock, and ensuring proper product placement and signage.
- Handle customer inquiries, resolve complaints, and escalate complex issues to management as necessary to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Adhere to all company policies and safety procedures to maintain a safe and secure shopping and working environment.
- Collaborate with team members to achieve daily, weekly, and monthly sales targets and operational goals.
- Continuously learn about new products, promotions, services, and industry trends to enhance product knowledge and customer service capabilities.
Required Skills
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse customers.
- Strong customer service orientation with a genuine desire to help others and solve problems.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented retail environment.
- Basic computer proficiency for operating POS and inventory management systems.
- Ability to lift and move merchandise weighing up to 50 lbs regularly and stand for extended periods.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to meet business needs.
- A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a proactive approach to tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum 6 months of previous retail or customer service experience.
- Basic knowledge of home improvement products, tools, or building materials.
- Experience operating power equipment (e.g., forklift, reach truck) with valid certification is an asset.
- Secondary school diploma or equivalent.
