Key Responsibilities

  • Greet and assist customers in a friendly, knowledgeable, and professional manner, identifying their needs and offering appropriate solutions.
  • Provide expert advice on product selection, usage, and home improvement projects, guiding customers through their purchasing decisions.
  • Actively seek out customers on the sales floor, engaging them in conversation and inquiring about their needs and projects.
  • Process transactions accurately and efficiently using the point-of-sale (POS) system, including handling cash, credit, and debit payments.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked department, ensuring products are easily accessible and displays are attractive.
  • Assist with merchandising, including setting up promotional displays, rotating stock, and ensuring proper product placement and signage.
  • Handle customer inquiries, resolve complaints, and escalate complex issues to management as necessary to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Adhere to all company policies and safety procedures to maintain a safe and secure shopping and working environment.
  • Collaborate with team members to achieve daily, weekly, and monthly sales targets and operational goals.
  • Continuously learn about new products, promotions, services, and industry trends to enhance product knowledge and customer service capabilities.

Required Skills

  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse customers.
  • Strong customer service orientation with a genuine desire to help others and solve problems.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented retail environment.
  • Basic computer proficiency for operating POS and inventory management systems.
  • Ability to lift and move merchandise weighing up to 50 lbs regularly and stand for extended periods.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to meet business needs.
  • A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a proactive approach to tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 months of previous retail or customer service experience.
  • Basic knowledge of home improvement products, tools, or building materials.
  • Experience operating power equipment (e.g., forklift, reach truck) with valid certification is an asset.
  • Secondary school diploma or equivalent.
