Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate various heavy equipment including excavators, bulldozers, graders, loaders, compactors, and other construction equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Perform daily pre-operational inspections of equipment and complete minor maintenance duties as required (e.g., greasing, fluid checks).
  • Read and interpret grade stakes, blueprints, and survey markings to guide equipment operations.
  • Execute earthwork activities such as excavation, backfilling, grading, and compacting to achieve precise specifications.
  • Load and unload materials, ensuring proper handling and placement on job sites.
  • Work collaboratively with site supervisors, engineers, and ground crew to ensure project schedules and quality standards are met.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and provincial regulations.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions, site hazards, or safety incidents to the supervisor immediately.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, both inside and outside the equipment.
  • Participate in daily toolbox talks and safety meetings.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of verifiable experience operating heavy equipment on construction or civil sites.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in operating at least three types of heavy equipment (e.g., excavator, dozer, loader).
  • Strong understanding of heavy equipment mechanics and basic maintenance procedures.
  • Excellent spatial awareness, hand-eye coordination, and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret grade stakes and survey markings.
  • Solid understanding of construction site safety protocols and procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively in varying weather conditions and demanding environments.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license or equivalent, with a clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Heavy Equipment Operator certification from a recognized institution.
  • Experience with GPS-enabled grading systems.
  • Class 1A or 3A driver's license (or equivalent) for transporting equipment.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience in large-scale infrastructure projects (e.g., roads, bridges, pipelines).
  • Experience working in remote or challenging work environments.
