Key Responsibilities
- Assist patients with daily personal care activities, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility.
- Monitor vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) and accurately record observations.
- Help patients with feeding, ensuring dietary requirements are met and documenting intake.
- Support nurses and doctors in providing medical care, including assisting with procedures and treatments.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient environment.
- Provide emotional support and companionship to patients, fostering a comforting atmosphere.
- Assist with patient transfers and repositioning to ensure comfort and prevent pressure sores.
- Accurately document care provided, patient observations, and any changes in patient condition.
- Communicate effectively with patients, their families, and the healthcare team.
- Adhere strictly to infection control policies and safety protocols.
- Respond promptly to patient calls and requests for assistance.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Healthcare Assistant, Caregiver, or in a similar role (at least 1 year).
- Strong understanding of patient care principles and basic medical terminology.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to show empathy, patience, and compassion.
- Strong observational and reporting skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Good physical stamina and manual dexterity.
- High level of professionalism and ethical conduct.
- Basic computer literacy for electronic health record documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Experience working in a hospital or clinical setting.
- Familiarity with local language (Ibibio/Efik) in addition to English.
- Further training or certification in healthcare support services.
