Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Health Officer to join our dynamic team at the Hôpital Général de Référence de Kindu. This pivotal role involves working directly within our public clinic and extending into community outreach initiatives to enhance the health and well-being of Kindu’s population. The successful candidate will play a crucial part in implementing public health programs, conducting disease surveillance, promoting health education, and ensuring the smooth operation of clinic services. Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, and monitor public health programs within the clinic and community settings.
  • Conduct health education and promotion activities, including workshops and awareness campaigns on hygiene, nutrition, maternal and child health, and disease prevention.
  • Perform disease surveillance and reporting, including active case finding, data collection, and analysis for communicable diseases (e.g., malaria, cholera, measles).
  • Support vaccination campaigns and ensure proper cold chain management for vaccines.
  • Provide basic first aid and refer patients to appropriate medical services as needed.
  • Collaborate with community leaders, local health committees, and other health partners to strengthen community health initiatives.
  • Ensure accurate and timely data collection, record-keeping, and reporting on all public health activities.
  • Participate in emergency response activities during public health crises or outbreaks.
  • Manage and monitor the stock of essential health supplies and equipment at the clinic level.
  • Conduct regular community health assessments to identify prevalent health issues and inform program development.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in public health program implementation and community engagement.
  • Strong understanding of disease surveillance, prevention, and control methods.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and report writing.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of local health challenges and cultural sensitivities in the DRC.
  • Fluency in French and Swahili (local languages are a significant advantage).
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (MS Office Suite).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Nursing, Community Health, or a related field.
  • Prior experience working in a public health clinic or with an NGO in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
  • Specific training in emergency preparedness and response.
  • Experience in maternal and child health programs or nutrition initiatives.
