Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately input, update, and maintain patient health information in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all relevant privacy legislation (e.g., PIPEDA, provincial health information acts) and organizational policies.
  • Perform regular audits of health records to identify and correct discrepancies, ensuring data integrity and completeness.
  • Process requests for health information, ensuring proper authorization and adherence to release of information protocols.
  • Assist healthcare professionals with retrieving and interpreting patient data as needed.
  • Scan, index, and organize paper-based health records into digital formats, maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Generate and prepare various reports related to health information management for administrative and clinical purposes.
  • Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to resolve documentation issues and improve data quality.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with best practices in health information management and technology.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 2 years) in health information management, medical office administration, or a related field.
  • Proficiency with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems; familiarity with various platforms is an asset.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record keeping.
  • Thorough understanding of privacy legislation and confidentiality principles in healthcare.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks independently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a remote team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Health Information Management, Medical Office Administration, or a related healthcare discipline.
  • Certification from the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA).
