Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct personal care to residents, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility assistance.
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as eating, transferring, and toileting.
  • Monitor and report changes in residents' physical and mental health to nursing staff.
  • Document care provided and observations accurately in resident care records.
  • Engage residents in meaningful social activities and promote their independence and well-being.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized living environment for residents.
  • Communicate effectively and empathetically with residents, families, and interdisciplinary team members.

Required Skills

  • Completion of a recognized Health Care Assistant (HCA) program or equivalent international qualification.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate and patient-centred care.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position, including lifting and standing for extended periods.
  • Basic computer literacy for documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with seniors in a long-term care or acute care setting.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Knowledge of an additional language relevant to Vancouver's diverse population.
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
