Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately dispense and label prescribed medications under the supervision of a pharmacist, ensuring compliance with all regulatory guidelines and internal policies.
  • Manage and maintain pharmacy stock levels, including ordering, receiving, storing, and rotating pharmaceuticals to prevent waste and ensure availability.
  • Conduct regular inventory checks, identify discrepancies, and assist in resolving stock-related issues.
  • Prepare and compound sterile and non-sterile preparations as required, adhering to strict aseptic techniques and quality control measures.
  • Provide clear and concise information to patients and healthcare professionals regarding medication usage, storage, and potential side effects, escalating complex queries to a pharmacist.
  • Support pharmacists in ward rounds and clinical duties, including medication reconciliation and patient counselling when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and prescription documentation using pharmacy management systems.
  • Ensure all health and safety regulations, including COSHH, are strictly followed within the pharmacy department.
  • Participate in continuous professional development, training, and departmental meetings to enhance skills and contribute to service improvement initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Relevant NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent qualification.
  • Current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) of Great Britain.
  • Minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience as a Pharmacy Technician, preferably within a hospital or clinical setting.
  • Proficient in pharmacy dispensing software and general IT skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in dispensing and record-keeping.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience with sterile compounding and aseptic techniques.
