Job Description

The St. Catherine Municipal Corporation is seeking a dedicated and skilled Groundsman to join our team, specifically focused on the maintenance of our facilities and compounds within the vibrant Hellshire, Portmore area. As a Groundsman, you will be instrumental in upholding the aesthetic appeal, functionality, and safety of various public properties, including parks, recreational areas, public access points, and municipal compounds. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine lawn care, including mowing, trimming, edging, and fertilizing.
- Plant, cultivate, prune, and water flowers, shrubs, and trees.
- Maintain the cleanliness of all assigned grounds, removing litter, debris, and fallen leaves.
- Operate and maintain various landscaping equipment and tools safely and efficiently.
- Conduct minor repairs and maintenance on groundskeeping equipment and outdoor facilities as needed.
- Monitor the health of plants and turf, identifying and addressing issues such as pests or diseases.
- Assist with waste management and recycling efforts on municipal properties.
- Ensure pathways, sidewalks, and common areas are clear and safe for public use.
- Report any major maintenance issues, safety hazards, or vandalism to the supervisor promptly.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and guidelines set forth by the Corporation.
Required Skills
- Proven physical stamina and ability to perform demanding outdoor tasks in varying weather conditions.
- Basic knowledge of landscaping techniques, horticulture, and ground maintenance practices.
- Ability to safely operate lawn mowers, trimmers, blowers, and other groundskeeping equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to maintaining cleanliness and aesthetics.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience (1+ year) as a Groundsman, Landscaper, or in a similar outdoor maintenance role.
- Relevant certifications in horticulture, landscaping, or equipment operation.
- Valid Jamaican driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Knowledge of local plant species and environmental care practices specific to Jamaica.
