Job Description

MSC Africa Logistics is seeking a dedicated Ground Handling Officer to join our dynamic team in Boma, Kongo-Central Province. In this critical role, you will be at the forefront of our aviation logistics operations, ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely handling of cargo and aircraft on the ground. This position is essential for maintaining the integrity of our air freight services, particularly crucial in supporting trade and development in the region. You will be responsible for coordinating a wide array of ground support activities, from load planning and cargo handling to equipment operation and meticulous documentation. Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and supervise all ground handling activities for inbound and outbound air cargo, ensuring compliance with airline procedures and safety regulations.
- Oversee the loading and unloading of aircraft, including proper weight and balance distribution, cargo securement, and equipment utilization.
- Prepare and verify all necessary documentation, including air waybills, manifests, load sheets, and customs declarations.
- Conduct pre-arrival and post-departure checks of aircraft, ensuring all ground service equipment is in good working order and positioned correctly.
- Liaise effectively with airline crew, airport authorities, customs officials, and internal departments to ensure seamless operations.
- Monitor and track cargo movements, providing timely updates and resolving any discrepancies or delays.
- Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, security procedures, and international aviation standards (IATA, ICAO).
- Operate and supervise the use of ground support equipment (GSE) such as forklifts, pushback tractors, and cargo loaders.
- Identify and report any operational issues, equipment malfunctions, or safety hazards immediately.
- Participate in training programs and continuous professional development to stay updated on industry best practices and regulatory changes.
Required Skills
- Minimum 3 years of experience in ground handling, air cargo operations, or aviation logistics.
- Strong understanding of aviation safety regulations, security procedures, and ground handling protocols.
- Proficiency in using ground support equipment (GSE) and cargo handling tools.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to operational challenges.
- Fluency in French and strong working knowledge of English (written and spoken).
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment and adapt to changing operational demands.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse teams and external stakeholders.
- Valid driver's license appropriate for operating ground handling vehicles.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications in dangerous goods handling (DGR) and/or aircraft weight and balance.
- Experience with Cargo Management Systems (CMS) or other logistics software.
- Knowledge of local customs procedures and regulations in DR Congo.
- A diploma or degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Aviation Management, or a related field.
