Job Description

Glo is looking for a dedicated Field Technician to join our dynamic team in Ikot Eneobong, Calabar. As a Glo Field Technician, you will be on the front lines, responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of telecommunications equipment and services. Your day-to-day will involve diagnosing and resolving technical issues, performing routine preventive maintenance, and ensuring our customers experience uninterrupted service. You will work with a variety of equipment, including base stations, fiber optic cables, and customer premises equipment (CPE), requiring a strong understanding of both hardware and software components. Key Responsibilities
- Perform installation, configuration, and activation of telecommunications equipment, including Base Transceiver Stations (BTS), Node Bs, eNode Bs, and associated transmission equipment.
- Conduct routine preventive maintenance on network infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance and compliance with company standards.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex technical issues related to network outages, service disruptions, and equipment malfunctions.
- Execute corrective maintenance and repair activities efficiently to minimize downtime and restore services promptly.
- Test and verify service quality after installations or repairs, ensuring all parameters meet defined specifications.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, installations, repairs, and equipment inventory.
- Provide technical support and guidance to customers, resolving service-related inquiries and issues in a professional manner.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and company policies while working on-site, including working at heights and with electrical equipment.
- Collaborate effectively with NOC (Network Operations Center) and other technical teams for coordinated fault resolution and service provisioning.
- Participate in on-call rotations and be available for emergency responses outside of regular business hours when required.
Required Skills
- Minimum of OND/HND/B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Proven experience (minimum 2 years) in telecommunications field operations, installation, and maintenance.
- Strong understanding of GSM, UMTS, LTE, and fiber optic network technologies.
- Proficiency in diagnosing and troubleshooting network hardware and software issues.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with customers.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive manual transmission vehicles.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant professional certifications (e.g., CCNA, CompTIA Network+).
- Experience with specific vendor equipment (e.g., Huawei, Ericsson, Nokia).
- Knowledge of IP networking and data communication protocols.
- Prior experience working in the Calabar region and familiarity with local terrain.
- Ability to interpret technical diagrams, schematics, and manuals.
