Job Description

Sandals Negril Beach Resort & Spa is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Generator Technician to join our dynamic maintenance team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all power generation systems across our expansive resort property. Your expertise will ensure the uninterrupted power supply essential for our luxury operations, from guest rooms and dining facilities to critical infrastructure. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on all generators, including fluid checks, filter replacements, and system inspections.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical faults in diesel and gasoline generators, transfer switches, and control panels.
  • Execute timely and efficient repairs of generator components, engines, alternators, and associated power supply equipment.
  • Conduct load testing and performance evaluations to ensure optimal generator operation and reliability.
  • Install new generator units, transfer switches, and related wiring, ensuring compliance with all safety and electrical codes.
  • Maintain detailed records of all maintenance, repairs, and inspections performed on power generation equipment.
  • Respond promptly to emergency power outages and generator malfunctions, ensuring minimal disruption to resort operations.
  • Collaborate with other maintenance team members to integrate generator systems with overall resort infrastructure.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and environmental regulations during all work activities.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior technicians as required.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Generator Technician or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel and gasoline generator engines, alternators, and control systems.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing electrical faults using multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other diagnostic tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical manuals.
  • Familiarity with automatic transfer switch (ATS) operation and troubleshooting.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy equipment, work in various weather conditions, and on call.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical certification or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with specific generator brands commonly used in industrial or hospitality settings (e.g., Caterpillar, Cummins, Perkins).
  • Previous experience working in a resort or hotel environment.
  • Knowledge of local electrical codes and safety regulations in Jamaica.
  • HVAC or refrigeration repair experience is a plus.
