Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Gas Plant Technician to join our dynamic Energy Supply team in Kisangani, Tshopo Province. In this essential role, you will be responsible for the hands-on operation, maintenance, and repair of critical gas-fired power generation equipment and associated systems that contribute to SNEL’s diverse energy portfolio. This position demands a keen understanding of mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation processes within an industrial plant environment. You will perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and complex troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance, efficiency, and reliability of our energy assets.
The successful candidate will possess a strong commitment to safety protocols and environmental regulations, working diligently to prevent accidents and ensure compliance. Your daily activities will involve monitoring plant parameters, adjusting controls as necessary, and responding promptly to operational anomalies. You will also be expected to interpret technical diagrams, schematics, and operational manuals to execute precise maintenance tasks. This role is crucial for maintaining the seamless flow of energy to our consumers, and it offers an opportunity to contribute significantly to the backbone of the region’s energy infrastructure. Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor gas-fired generators, compressors, turbines, and associated auxiliary equipment.
- Perform routine preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems.
- Conduct thorough inspections and diagnostic tests to identify and resolve operational issues.
- Execute repairs, replacements, and overhauls of plant components in accordance with technical specifications and safety standards.
- Maintain accurate logs and records of plant operations, maintenance activities, and equipment performance.
- Adhere strictly to all safety procedures, environmental regulations, and company policies.
- Respond promptly to alarms, emergencies, and operational disturbances, implementing effective corrective actions.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, and other technical teams to optimize plant performance and resolve complex problems.
- Participate in the commissioning and decommissioning of plant equipment as required.
- Ensure the availability of necessary spare parts and tools for maintenance tasks.
Required Skills
- Diploma or Technical Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in the operation and maintenance of gas power plants or heavy industrial equipment.
- Strong understanding of gas turbine operations, compression systems, and associated balance of plant.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting P&IDs, electrical schematics, and technical manuals.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to maintenance.
- Strong commitment to safety and environmental compliance.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate technical information clearly.
- Physical fitness and ability to work in various industrial environments, including confined spaces and at heights.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Certifications in specific plant equipment operation or maintenance (e.g., turbine maintenance, industrial electrical systems).
- Experience with SCADA systems or distributed control systems (DCS).
- Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).
- Knowledge of local energy regulations and standards in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
- Proficiency in French and Swahili.
