As a Gardener with IFMS, you will be responsible for the year-round care and maintenance of diverse landscapes, ranging from private residences to corporate office complexes and public green spaces within Kwali. You will be instrumental in creating and preserving visually appealing and healthy outdoor environments that enhance the value and appeal of the properties we manage. This position requires a proactive individual who can work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating a strong work ethic and a genuine love for horticulture. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine gardening duties including planting, weeding, pruning, watering, fertilizing, and mowing lawns.
- Maintain the cleanliness and aesthetic appeal of garden beds, pathways, and other landscaped areas.
- Identify and treat common plant diseases, pests, and nutrient deficiencies using appropriate methods and products.
- Operate and maintain gardening tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working order and used safely.
- Prepare soil and planting beds for new installations, ensuring optimal conditions for plant growth.
- Assist in landscape design implementation, including laying out new garden features and plant arrangements as per instructions.
- Ensure proper disposal of green waste and adherence to environmental best practices.
- Report any issues with irrigation systems, plants, or grounds to the Facility Manager promptly.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Gardener or Landscaper, demonstrating practical knowledge of gardening techniques.
- Familiarity with various plant species, including flowers, shrubs, trees, and turf grass common in the Abuja climate.
- Ability to operate gardening tools and equipment safely and efficiently (e.g., mowers, trimmers, blowers).
- Strong understanding of soil types, fertilization, pest control, and irrigation methods.
- Excellent attention to detail and a keen eye for aesthetics in landscape maintenance.
- Physical stamina and ability to perform strenuous outdoor tasks in varying weather conditions.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
- A certificate or diploma in horticulture, landscaping, or a related field.
- Knowledge of indigenous plants and sustainable gardening practices.
- Basic knowledge of irrigation system troubleshooting and repair.
- Experience in a commercial or large-scale residential gardening environment.
- Valid driver's license for potentially transporting tools or materials (though not always required).
