AGL (Africa Global Logistics) is seeking a dedicated Freight Agent specializing in Shipping Documentation to join our dynamic team in Ilebo, Kasai Province. This role is at the heart of our operations, requiring a deep understanding of import/export procedures, customs regulations, and international trade compliance. You will manage the entire lifecycle of shipping documentation, from initial booking confirmations to final delivery notes, ensuring every detail is correct and aligned with both AGL’s rigorous standards and all relevant regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will navigate complex customs regulations, coordinate proactively with various stakeholders including clients, carriers, internal teams, and customs officials, and maintain precise records within our integrated logistics management systems. This position demands a proactive approach, exceptional problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively under pressure to meet tight deadlines. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and process all necessary shipping documentation, including Bills of Lading, Air Waybills, customs declarations, packing lists, and commercial invoices.
  • Ensure all documentation adheres to local, national, and international shipping regulations, as well as company policies.
  • Coordinate with clients, carriers, customs brokers, and other stakeholders to gather accurate information and facilitate smooth cargo movement.
  • Track and trace shipments, providing timely updates to clients and internal teams regarding status and potential delays.
  • Resolve documentation discrepancies, customs issues, and shipping anomalies promptly and efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of all shipping activities and documentation in our logistics management system.
  • Assist with customs clearance procedures and ensure compliance with all import and export requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with freight forwarders and transporters to ensure timely pick-up and delivery of goods.
  • Stay updated on changes in international trade regulations, customs laws, and shipping procedures.
  • Generate reports on shipping activities, costs, and compliance metrics as required.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in freight forwarding, logistics, or shipping documentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong understanding of international shipping regulations, customs procedures, and Incoterms.
  • Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, in English and French (Lingala/Swahili a plus).
  • Proven problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to challenges.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Business, or a related field.
  • Experience with logistics management software (e.g., CargoWise One, SAP).
  • Knowledge of specific trade lanes relevant to the DRC and Central Africa.
  • Prior experience working with a multinational logistics provider.
