Job Description
We are actively seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Forklift Operator to join our dynamic warehouse team in Bayside, Portmore. This critical role is central to our daily operations, ensuring the efficient and secure movement of goods within our bustling distribution center. As a Forklift Operator, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including the loading and unloading of trucks, orderly stacking of products in designated storage areas, and preparing outgoing shipments. Your meticulous attention to detail will be essential in maintaining accurate inventory records and preventing product damage.
The successful candidate will possess a valid forklift operator certification and a proven track record of safe operation. You will navigate our warehouse using various types of forklifts (e.g., counterbalance, reach trucks) to transport materials, ensuring that all procedures are followed in accordance with company policies and safety regulations. This role requires excellent spatial awareness, a strong understanding of warehouse logistics, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Key Responsibilities
- Operate forklifts (e.g., counterbalance, reach trucks) safely and efficiently to move, stack, and retrieve products and materials.
- Load and unload delivery trucks and containers, ensuring accurate counts and preventing damage to goods.
- Transport products to and from warehouse storage areas, racking, and staging locations.
- Perform daily pre-operation safety checks and routine maintenance on forklifts, reporting any defects or malfunctions promptly.
- Assist in the organization and maintenance of the warehouse, ensuring cleanliness and clear aisles.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and traffic management plans.
- Participate in physical inventory counts and contribute to maintaining accurate inventory records.
- Prepare outgoing shipments by picking, packing, and staging products for delivery.
- Collaborate with warehouse staff and supervisors to optimize workflow and achieve operational goals.
- Follow all quality control standards and ensure product integrity during handling.
Required Skills
- Valid Forklift Operator Certification (e.g., OSHA or equivalent)
- Minimum of 1 year (12 months) experience operating forklifts in a warehouse or distribution setting.
- Strong understanding of warehouse safety protocols and best practices.
- Ability to read and interpret shipping labels, invoices, and other warehouse documents.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.
- Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects when required, stand for long periods, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Basic mathematical skills for counting and inventory verification.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience with various types of forklifts (e.g., electric, propane, sit-down, stand-up).
- Familiarity with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) or inventory tracking software.
- Proven track record of reliability and punctuality.
- Experience in a fast-paced, high-volume distribution environment.
