Job Description

As a Foreman – Construction Coordination at COGECOM SA, you will be a pivotal leader on our construction sites in Bunia, Ituri Province. This role demands a proactive, hands-on professional who can effectively manage day-to-day operations, ensuring projects adhere to strict timelines, budgets, and the highest quality standards. You will be responsible for overseeing a diverse team of skilled and unskilled laborers, coordinating various trades, and ensuring all work is executed safely and efficiently, always in compliance with project specifications and company policies. Your primary objective will be to translate intricate project plans into tangible, measurable progress, maintaining clear and consistent communication with the Project Manager, site engineers, and all site personnel. You will play a crucial role in proactive problem-solving, strategic resource allocation, and maintaining a productive, harmonious, and safe work environment. Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate daily construction activities on site, ensuring strict adherence to project plans, specifications, and established schedules.
  • Lead, mentor, and effectively manage a team of workers, including assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and providing continuous guidance and training.
  • Rigorously implement and enforce all health, safety, and environmental regulations and procedures to maintain an accident-free and secure working environment.
  • Monitor the quality of work performed, ensuring it consistently meets COGECOM SA's high standards and all relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate seamlessly with subcontractors, material suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure the timely delivery of necessary materials and services.
  • Proactively identify and resolve on-site issues and challenges promptly, escalating complex problems to the Project Manager for strategic input as necessary.
  • Conduct regular and thorough site inspections and accurately report on progress, resource utilization, and any potential deviations from the plan.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs, comprehensive progress reports, and all other necessary project documentation.
  • Manage site equipment and materials efficiently, minimizing waste, ensuring proper usage, and overseeing maintenance schedules.
  • Actively participate in site meetings, contributing valuable insights to planning and problem-solving discussions.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Construction Foreman or in a similar supervisory role, demonstrating a track record of successful project oversight.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, equipment, and comprehensive safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, local standards).
  • Excellent leadership, team management, and interpersonal abilities to motivate and guide diverse teams.
  • Proficiency in reading and accurately interpreting blueprints, schematics, and detailed construction drawings.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and critical decision-making skills under pressure.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in French (written and spoken) to convey instructions and reports clearly.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Physical fitness and ability to work in demanding outdoor and varied environmental conditions for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical diploma or vocational training in civil engineering, construction management, or a closely related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of local construction standards, practices, and regulatory frameworks specific to the DR Congo.
  • Proficiency in Swahili or other local languages prevalent in Ituri Province to facilitate better communication with local teams.
  • Valid First Aid and Safety certifications.
  • Experience with the operation and maintenance of various heavy construction equipment.
