Job Description
Are you an organised, proactive, and experienced professional with a passion for vehicle fleet management and operational excellence? Enterprise Rent-A-Car is seeking a dedicated Fleet Manager – Vehicle Maintenance & Staff Scheduling to join our dynamic team on Gloucester Road, Bristol. This pivotal role is at the heart of our operations, ensuring the efficient and safe running of our diverse vehicle fleet while optimising staffing levels to meet demand. You will be responsible for overseeing the entire lifecycle of our vehicles, from acquisition support and routine maintenance scheduling to timely repairs and disposal, all while adhering to the highest safety and compliance standards. This isn’t just about managing vehicles; it’s about leading a team, fostering a culture of accountability, and continuously improving our operational efficiency. You will be instrumental in developing and implementing robust maintenance schedules, managing vendor relationships, negotiating contracts for services, and meticulously tracking fleet performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and cost savings.
A crucial aspect of this role involves strategic staff scheduling, ensuring we have the right people in the right place at the right time to support our fleet operations and customer service commitments. This includes managing daily staffing levels for vehicle preparation, delivery, collection, and internal transfers, taking into account seasonal fluctuations and unexpected demands. You will work closely with branch management and regional teams to align fleet availability with rental demands, anticipate future needs, and proactively address any operational challenges that arise. Your analytical skills will be key in forecasting maintenance needs, optimising vehicle utilisation, and ensuring maximum uptime for our fleet. Furthermore, you will be responsible for ensuring all fleet operations comply with local and national regulations, including health and safety standards, environmental policies, and transport laws.

Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the comprehensive maintenance and repair schedules for the entire vehicle fleet, ensuring compliance with manufacturer guidelines and safety standards.
- Manage relationships with external service providers, including mechanics, parts suppliers, and towing services, negotiating contracts and ensuring cost-effective solutions.
- Develop and implement efficient staff scheduling strategies for vehicle preparation, delivery, collection, and internal transfers, optimising labour costs and operational efficiency.
- Monitor vehicle performance, fuel consumption, and maintenance costs, implementing data-driven strategies to improve efficiency and reduce expenditure.
- Ensure all fleet operations adhere to local, national, and company regulations, including health and safety, environmental, and transport laws.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits of vehicles and operational procedures to identify and address potential issues proactively.
- Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of operational staff, fostering a positive work environment and promoting continuous professional development.
- Manage vehicle inventory, including tracking vehicle locations, status, and availability, and coordinating inter-branch transfers as needed.
- Prepare detailed reports on fleet performance, maintenance expenditures, and operational efficiency for senior management.
- Respond promptly to breakdowns and emergencies, coordinating necessary support and ensuring minimal disruption to services.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in fleet management, logistics, or a similar operational role (minimum 4 years).
- Strong understanding of vehicle maintenance, diagnostics, and repair processes for a diverse fleet.
- Demonstrable experience in staff scheduling and resource allocation in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills, with a track record of motivating and developing staff.
- Proficiency in fleet management software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging with staff, vendors, and management.
- Valid UK Driving Licence with a clean record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Relevant professional certifications (e.g., Transport Manager CPC, IOSH).
- Experience with negotiating vendor contracts and managing budgets.
- Familiarity with Bristol and surrounding areas’ transport infrastructure.
