As a Fishmonger, you will be the heart of our fresh seafood counter, responsible for preparing, displaying, and selling a wide variety of fresh fish and shellfish. Key Responsibilities
- Receive, inspect, and safely store fresh seafood deliveries according to company and food safety standards.
- Skillfully clean, scale, fillet, and portion various types of fish and shellfish as required by customer demand and display needs.
- Arrange and maintain an attractive and appealing fresh seafood display, ensuring optimal presentation and freshness throughout the day.
- Provide exceptional customer service, offering expert advice on seafood selection, preparation methods, and cooking tips.
- Accurately weigh, price, and package seafood products for customers.
- Monitor and manage cold storage areas, ensuring proper temperatures and stock rotation to minimize waste and ensure product quality.
- Maintain a pristine and hygienic work environment, strictly adhering to all food safety and sanitation regulations.
- Assist with inventory management, including stock checks, ordering, and reporting any discrepancies.
- Operate and maintain cutting tools, scales, and other equipment safely and effectively.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures, especially those related to health, safety, and customer service.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Fishmonger or in a similar seafood handling role.
- Excellent knife skills for cleaning, scaling, filleting, and portioning fish.
- Strong knowledge of various types of fish and shellfish, including their characteristics and preparation methods.
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene regulations in a retail setting.
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods, lift heavy objects, and work in cold environments.
