Job Description

First Bank of Nigeria is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Credit Analyst to join our dynamic team in Utako, Abuja. This pivotal role involves performing in-depth financial analysis to assess the creditworthiness of individuals and businesses applying for loans, ensuring prudent lending decisions that align with the bank’s risk appetite and regulatory guidelines. As a Credit Analyst, you will be instrumental in safeguarding the bank’s assets while facilitating growth by accurately evaluating potential risks and opportunities. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough financial analysis of credit applications, including reviewing financial statements, cash flow projections, and collateral valuations.
  • Assess the creditworthiness of applicants by evaluating business models, industry risks, management capabilities, and market conditions.
  • Prepare detailed credit appraisal reports, articulating findings, risks, mitigants, and recommendations for credit decisions.
  • Develop financial models and conduct stress testing to evaluate potential impacts on borrowers' financial health.
  • Ensure compliance with First Bank’s credit policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with Relationship Managers to gather necessary information and provide expert advice on credit structures.
  • Present credit recommendations to the Credit Committee and senior management, defending analysis and proposals.
  • Monitor existing credit portfolios for early warning signs of deterioration and recommend proactive measures.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, economic conditions, and regulatory changes affecting credit risk management.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in credit analysis, risk management, or a similar role within the banking or financial services sector.
  • Strong understanding of financial statements, accounting principles, and financial ratios.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for financial modeling and data analysis.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to interpret complex financial data and market trends.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for report writing and presentations.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.

Preferred Qualifications
