Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled First Aid Responder – Emergency Support to join our robust Health and Safety team at Glencore Mutanda Mining in Kolwezi, Lualaba Province. In this critical role, you will be on the front lines, providing immediate medical assistance and emergency care to our employees and contractors across our expansive mining site. Key Responsibilities
- Provide immediate and effective first aid treatment for injuries and illnesses occurring on-site, including cuts, burns, fractures, and medical emergencies.
- Conduct initial assessment of patient conditions, vital signs, and symptoms to determine the appropriate level of care and urgency.
- Administer basic life support (BLS) including CPR, airway management, and bleeding control.
- Stabilize patients for transport, ensuring proper immobilization and monitoring until professional medical help arrives or during evacuation.
- Operate and maintain first aid equipment, including stretchers, oxygen tanks, AEDs, and medical kits, ensuring all supplies are in stock and sterile.
- Document all incidents, injuries, and treatments accurately and thoroughly, maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Collaborate with emergency response teams, security personnel, and site management during critical incidents.
- Participate in regular emergency drills and training sessions to enhance response capabilities.
- Educate employees on basic first aid principles and safety practices.
- Adhere strictly to all company health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
- Assist with health and safety inspections and identify potential hazards.
- Maintain a clean and organized first aid station.
Required Skills
- Valid First Aid Certification (e.g., Advanced First Aid, Wilderness First Aid, or equivalent)
- Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR/AED certification
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in an emergency response or first aid role, preferably in an industrial, mining, or remote setting
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, in English
- Ability to make quick, sound decisions under pressure
- Excellent observational and assessment skills
- Physical fitness and ability to perform duties that may require lifting, carrying, and working in various environmental conditions
- Proficiency in incident reporting and documentation
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and ethical standards
Preferred Qualifications
- Paramedic or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification is a significant advantage
- Experience with advanced trauma life support (ATLS) principles
- Knowledge of local languages (e.g., Swahili, Lingala)
- Experience working in diverse cultural environments
- Valid driver's license with experience driving emergency vehicles
