Your day-to-day will involve a blend of field work, data analysis, report generation, and strategic planning. You will be responsible for ensuring that all facility operations adhere strictly to federal, state, and local environmental laws and internal company standards, including those set by the EPA and Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP). Beyond compliance, you will identify opportunities for environmental performance improvement, lead initiatives for waste reduction, energy efficiency, and resource conservation, and contribute to our broader sustainability goals. Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure strict compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations (e.g., EPA, DEEP, OSHA) and internal ExxonMobil policies.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive environmental management systems (EMS) and programs for air quality, water resources, waste management, and site remediation.
  • Conduct thorough environmental impact assessments, risk analyses, and hazard identification to proactively manage environmental risks.
  • Monitor environmental performance indicators, collect and analyze data, and prepare detailed environmental reports for internal stakeholders and regulatory agencies.
  • Prepare, review, and manage environmental permit applications, renewals, and modifications for various operational activities.
  • Lead or participate in environmental incident investigations, root cause analyses, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Provide expert environmental guidance and training to operational teams to foster a strong culture of environmental responsibility.
  • Evaluate new technologies and best practices to drive continuous improvement in environmental performance and resource efficiency.
  • Interface regularly with regulatory bodies, community groups, and external consultants on environmental matters.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related scientific/engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience in environmental engineering within an industrial setting.
  • Strong working knowledge of environmental regulations (e.g., Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA) and relevant state-specific regulations (CT DEEP).
  • Proven experience with air permitting, emissions calculations, wastewater treatment, stormwater management, and hazardous waste management.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, with the capacity to present complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in environmental data management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Environmental Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or other relevant professional certifications (e.g., Certified Hazardous Materials Manager – CHMM, Registered Environmental Manager – REM).
  • Experience in the oil and gas, chemical, or petrochemical industry.
  • Familiarity with ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
  • Experience with environmental due diligence or site assessment projects.
