Job Description

ExxonMobil is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Chemical Engineer to join our innovative team, operating from our new regional engineering support office in Torrington, Connecticut. While based locally, you will play a crucial role in contributing to vital projects that span across ExxonMobil’s diverse global chemical and refining operations. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize chemical processes and equipment to enhance operational efficiency, safety, and environmental performance.
  • Conduct comprehensive process simulations, data analysis, and economic evaluations to support process improvements and project feasibility studies.
  • Troubleshoot complex operational issues, identify root causes using systematic approaches, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Develop and implement robust process control strategies to ensure stable, efficient, and reliable operation of units.
  • Collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, and project management teams to successfully transition new technologies from pilot to commercial scale.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all relevant safety, health, environmental, and quality regulations and stringent company standards.
  • Prepare detailed engineering reports, specifications, technical documentation, and presentations for various stakeholders.
  • Participate actively in hazard reviews (e.g., HAZOP, LOPA) and implement robust risk mitigation strategies.
  • Mentor junior engineers and actively share technical knowledge and best practices within the team and broader organization.
  • Stay abreast of industry best practices, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes to drive continuous innovation.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in chemical process engineering, preferably within the petrochemical, refining, or specialty chemicals industry.
  • Strong fundamental understanding of chemical engineering principles including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, and reaction kinetics.
  • Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, PRO/II, gPROMS) and strong data analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data, identify trends, and derive actionable insights to solve intricate problems.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills with a proactive approach.
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging with diverse teams.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary, global team.
  • Unwavering commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or actively working towards obtaining one.
  • Extensive experience with advanced process control (APC) systems and optimization techniques.
  • In-depth knowledge of process safety management (PSM) principles and their practical application.
  • Proven experience in project management or leading technical teams on significant engineering projects.
  • Familiarity with digitalization tools and data analytics platforms (e.g., Python, R, Power BI) for process optimization.
