Job Description

CalPortland Company is seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Tipper Driver to join our dynamic construction operations in Mesa, Arizona. As a vital member of our team, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of various construction materials, including aggregates, asphalt, and other bulk goods, to and from our construction sites and material plants. This role demands a keen eye for safety, adherence to all traffic and company regulations, and the ability to operate heavy-duty tipper trucks with precision and care. Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate heavy-duty tipper trucks to transport construction materials such as aggregates, asphalt, sand, and gravel.
  • Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment, reporting any defects or issues promptly.
  • Adhere strictly to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, company safety policies, and site-specific rules.
  • Maintain accurate logbooks and delivery records, including mileage, fuel consumption, and material quantities.
  • Load and unload materials efficiently and safely, ensuring proper weight distribution and securement.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch, site supervisors, and other team members regarding schedules, routes, and potential delays.
  • Navigate construction sites, public roads, and material yards safely and courteously.
  • Perform minor routine maintenance and cleaning of the truck as required.
  • Be prepared to work varying shifts, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends as project demands necessitate.
  • Represent CalPortland Company professionally in all interactions.

Required Skills

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
  • Clean driving record (MVR) for the past 3-5 years
  • Minimum of 2 years of verifiable experience operating heavy-duty tipper trucks or similar commercial vehicles.
  • Ability to perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and basic vehicle maintenance.
  • Strong understanding and adherence to DOT regulations and safety protocols.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform duties such as climbing, bending, and reaching.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience operating in construction site environments.
  • Knowledge of local Mesa/Phoenix metropolitan area roadways and construction sites.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Experience with various types of construction materials handling.
