Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the careful loading, unloading, and secure transportation of event decoration materials, equipment, and furniture to and from event venues.
- Execute precise setup of various decorative elements including but not limited to lighting fixtures, drapery, floral arrangements, signage, tablescapes, furniture, and artistic props according to detailed event design plans and directives.
- Work collaboratively and efficiently with the decoration lead, design team, and wider event crew to ensure all aesthetic elements are perfectly placed, secured, and visually impactful.
- Perform thorough quality checks on all decorations to ensure they meet No Surprises Events' high standards of excellence and align perfectly with client expectations.
- Safely dismantle and meticulously pack down all decorative items and equipment post-event, ensuring careful handling to prevent damage and proper inventory management.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area throughout all phases of the setup and breakdown processes.
- Communicate effectively and proactively with team members and supervisors regarding progress, potential challenges, or any equipment/material needs.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, company guidelines, and venue regulations during setup and breakdown activities.
- Assist with general event preparation and breakdown tasks as required by the event manager.
Required Skills
- Strong physical stamina and ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 25kg) comfortably and safely for extended periods.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a keen eye for aesthetics, symmetry, and overall design appeal.
- Proven ability to work effectively and cooperatively within a fast-paced, high-pressure team environment.
- High level of reliability, punctuality, and a strong, proactive work ethic.
- Basic understanding of tools and equipment commonly used in event setup (e.g., ladders, basic hand tools).
- Ability to follow instructions precisely and efficiently, working both independently and under direct supervision.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as dictated by event schedules and client needs.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Nigeria and possess valid identification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience (even informal) in event setup, decoration, stage production, retail visual merchandising, or a similar hands-on creative role.
- A genuine passion for event design, interior decor, floral arrangements, or visual arts.
- Basic knowledge of different types of decorative materials and best practices for their handling and storage.
- Ability to think quickly on your feet, problem-solve effectively, and adapt to changing on-site conditions or unforeseen challenges.
- A portfolio or examples of past decoration or creative projects (even personal ones) is a plus, demonstrating your aesthetic sensibility.
