We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Environmental Advisor to join our team, based near the Market Village area of Smyrna, GA. In this crucial role, you will be instrumental in ensuring Rio Tinto’s operations adhere to the highest environmental standards and regulatory requirements. Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal environmental regulations and company policies.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain environmental management plans, procedures, and systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
  • Conduct environmental impact assessments and risk analyses for new projects and ongoing operations.
  • Monitor environmental performance metrics, collect and analyze data, and prepare detailed environmental reports.
  • Liaise effectively with regulatory bodies, environmental agencies, and community stakeholders.
  • Provide expert environmental advice, training, and support to operational teams and management.
  • Investigate environmental incidents, identify root causes, and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
  • Manage waste streams, ensure proper handling of hazardous materials, and promote resource efficiency.
  • Participate in environmental audits and inspections, ensuring continuous improvement in environmental performance.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in environmental management, compliance, or consulting.
  • In-depth knowledge of US environmental laws and regulations (e.g., EPA, CWA, CAA, RCRA).
  • Proven experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in environmental data analysis tools and reporting software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant environmental discipline.
  • Professional certification (e.g., Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Environmental Engineering).
  • Experience within the mining, heavy industry, or manufacturing sectors.
  • Project management experience related to environmental initiatives.
  • Familiarity with GIS mapping and environmental modeling software.
