Black Hills Energy is actively seeking a highly skilled Engineer to contribute to our critical utility operations in Cheyenne, Wyoming. As an Engineer at Black Hills Energy, you will play a pivotal role in the design, development, maintenance, and optimization of our electrical and/or natural gas infrastructure. Key Responsibilities
- Design, analyze, and optimize electrical or natural gas distribution and transmission systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Conduct engineering studies, assessments, and feasibility analyses for new projects, system upgrades, and operational improvements.
- Manage engineering projects from conception to completion, including scope definition, budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, construction, environmental, and regulatory affairs, to ensure project success.
- Develop and implement maintenance strategies, troubleshooting complex technical issues, and ensuring system reliability.
- Prepare detailed engineering reports, specifications, drawings, and other technical documentation.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies, industry best practices, and regulatory changes to drive continuous improvement.
- Contribute to a safety-first culture by identifying potential hazards and implementing preventative measures.
- Actively participate in professional development activities and mentorship opportunities.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field from an ABET-accredited program.
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive engineering experience, preferably within the utilities, energy, or heavy industrial sector.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles, design standards, and operational practices relevant to electrical or natural gas systems.
- Proficiency in engineering software tools (e.g., CAD, simulation software, project management tools).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a diverse team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines.
- Commitment to safety and adherence to company policies and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in an engineering discipline or related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or actively pursuing licensure.
- Experience with renewable energy integration, smart grid technologies, or pipeline integrity management.
- Familiarity with U.S. immigration processes and requirements (e.g., H-1B, green card sponsorship).
- Prior experience working with international teams or in a multicultural environment.
