Key Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair natural gas distribution systems, service lines, meters, and associated equipment.
  • Perform leak detection, pipeline patrolling, and actively participate in emergency response procedures for gas leaks and incidents.
  • Conduct pressure testing, purging, and commissioning of new and existing gas lines and appliances.
  • Read, interpret, and accurately apply information from blueprints, schematics, engineering drawings, and technical manuals.
  • Ensure all work performed adheres strictly to company standards, federal, state, and local safety regulations, and industry codes (e.g., DOT, OSHA, AGA).
  • Provide exceptional customer service, explaining work performed, answering questions, and addressing customer concerns professionally.
  • Complete precise and timely work orders, reports, and other necessary documentation using field technology.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of tools, equipment, and company vehicles safely and efficiently.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation schedule to provide 24/7 emergency support as required.
  • Identify and mitigate potential hazards in the work environment to ensure personal and public safety.

Required Skills

  • Valid Gas Fitter license or equivalent certification relevant to Illinois.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in natural gas distribution or a related utility field.
  • Comprehensive understanding of natural gas systems, components, and safety protocols.
  • Proficiency in using a wide range of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment common to the gas trade.
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and construction plans.
  • Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic abilities to troubleshoot complex issues effectively.
  • Valid Class D Driver's License (or equivalent) with a clean driving record.
  • Strong physical ability to perform demanding work, often outdoors in various weather conditions, including lifting, bending, and climbing.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for effective team collaboration and customer interaction.
  • Commitment to adhering to all safety procedures and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Journeyman Gas Fitter certification.
  • Experience with pipeline integrity management systems and procedures.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Hour Construction Safety certification.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Previous experience working for a major utility company or in a similar industrial setting.
  • Proficiency with mobile work order management systems.
