Job Description
Enbridge is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Environmental Advisor to join our dynamic team in Springfield, Illinois. This is an exceptional opportunity to contribute to critical energy infrastructure projects while ensuring robust environmental compliance and sustainable practices. As an Environmental Advisor, you will be instrumental in overseeing environmental programs, providing expert guidance, and ensuring adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations across our operations within the Illinois region. You will be responsible for proactively identifying potential environmental risks, developing mitigation strategies, and fostering a culture of environmental stewardship among all project stakeholders. This role requires a keen eye for detail, strong problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to translate complex regulatory requirements into actionable plans. You will work closely with engineering, operations, land, and legal teams, acting as a pivotal resource for all environmental matters. Your day-to-day will involve site visits, permit applications, regulatory reporting, incident investigation, and continuous improvement initiatives. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor environmental management programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., EPA, Illinois EPA, OSHA).
- Prepare, submit, and manage environmental permits and approvals for pipeline construction, operations, and maintenance activities.
- Conduct environmental impact assessments, site inspections, and audits to identify potential risks and ensure mitigation measures are effectively implemented.
- Provide expert environmental guidance and support to project teams, operations personnel, and contractors.
- Investigate environmental incidents, determine root causes, and recommend corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
- Prepare and submit accurate and timely environmental reports to regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders.
- Develop and deliver environmental training programs to employees and contractors.
- Liaise with regulatory agencies, local communities, and other external stakeholders on environmental matters.
- Stay abreast of evolving environmental legislation and industry best practices, integrating changes into Enbridge's environmental programs.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of Enbridge's sustainability initiatives.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in environmental compliance, permitting, or management, preferably within the energy, oil & gas, or infrastructure sectors.
- Strong understanding of federal (e.g., Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, NEPA) and Illinois state environmental regulations (e.g., IEPA rules).
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex environmental concepts to diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various field sites as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant environmental discipline.
- Professional certifications such as Registered Environmental Manager (REM), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), or Professional Engineer (PE).
- Experience with GIS software and environmental data management systems.
- Knowledge of pipeline integrity management and construction practices.
- Experience in environmental incident response and emergency preparedness.
