Job Description
Southern Sun Ikoyi Hotel is seeking a highly skilled, experienced, and dedicated Electrician – Maintenance Technician to join our dynamic engineering team. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the continuous and safe operation of all electrical systems and equipment throughout our prestigious hotel property. Your expertise will directly contribute to the seamless experience of our guests and the overall efficiency of our world-class operations.
As an Electrician – Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for a wide range of electrical tasks, from performing routine preventative maintenance to diagnosing and rectifying complex electrical faults. This includes working diligently on our intricate power distribution systems, diverse lighting installations, critical HVAC electrical components, sophisticated kitchen equipment, essential emergency power systems, and various other electrical installations that are vital to our hotel’s functionality. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspection, maintenance, and repair of all electrical systems and components within the hotel premises.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical faults in power distribution systems, lighting circuits, HVAC controls, kitchen equipment, and other electrical appliances.
- Execute preventative maintenance programs to minimize breakdowns, extend equipment lifespan, and ensure energy efficiency.
- Install new electrical systems, wiring, conduits, fixtures, and control panels in accordance with blueprints and specifications.
- Ensure strict compliance with all relevant electrical codes, safety regulations, and hotel operational standards.
- Respond promptly and efficiently to electrical emergencies, power outages, and service calls to minimize disruption to guests and operations.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and material usage.
- Collaborate effectively with other maintenance staff, departments, and external contractors as required.
- Assist in the electrical aspects of renovation projects, upgrades, and new equipment installations.
- Regularly inspect and maintain emergency lighting and power backup systems, including generators and UPS units.
Required Skills
- Certified Electrician (e.g., Trade Test II/III, City & Guilds qualification or equivalent).
- Minimum of 3 years of proven experience as an Electrician or Maintenance Technician, preferably in a commercial or industrial setting.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, wiring diagrams, control circuits, and safety standards (NFPA 70E, IEE Wiring Regulations).
- Proficiency in using a wide range of electrical diagnostic tools and equipment (multimeters, clamp meters, insulation testers).
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics accurately.
- Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Physical stamina, dexterity, and the ability to work in various conditions, including confined spaces and at heights.
- Strong understanding of health and safety protocols related to electrical work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ordinary National Diploma (OND) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
- Previous experience working in the hospitality sector (hotels, resorts).
- Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS) and smart building technologies.
- Additional certifications in specialized electrical areas or safety.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
