In this multifaceted role, you will be responsible for a wide array of electrical tasks, encompassing the meticulous installation of new electrical systems, efficient repair of existing infrastructure, and proactive preventive maintenance. Your daily duties will involve interpreting complex technical blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics to accurately lay out and install electrical conduit, wiring, and fixtures. You will be expected to diagnose and troubleshoot intricate electrical malfunctions, utilizing a range of testing equipment to pinpoint issues and implement effective, lasting solutions. This includes repairing or replacing wiring, equipment, and fixtures, such as switches, circuit breakers, and fuse boxes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
  • Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
  • Lead and mentor junior electricians and apprentices when required.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety codes and regulations (e.g., NEC standards as adopted in Jamaica).
  • Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring and equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on electrical systems and components.
  • Provide excellent customer service and clear communication with clients and team members.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in electrical system installation and maintenance
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
  • Expertise in interpreting blueprints and wiring diagrams
  • Thorough knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) and local electrical regulations

Preferred Qualifications

  • HEART/NSTA Trust Level 3 or 4 certification in Electrical Installation
  • OSHA or similar safety training certification
  • Experience with commercial and industrial electrical systems
  • Valid Jamaican Driver's License (Class C or D)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
