Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Electrician to join our Building & Utility Maintenance team in Mbuji-Mayi. This crucial role involves the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems across MIBA’s various operational sites, including our processing plants, administrative offices, residential complexes, and extensive utility networks. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of industrial and building electrical codes, stringent safety standards, and practical, hands-on experience with both low and high-voltage systems. You will be responsible for ensuring the continuous, efficient, and safe operation of our entire electrical infrastructure, directly contributing to the overall productivity and safety of our vast operation. Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems, wiring, controls, and lighting fixtures in industrial, commercial, and residential buildings.
- Perform routine preventative and predictive maintenance on electrical equipment and infrastructure to ensure optimal performance, extended lifespan, and unwavering compliance with all safety standards.
- Diagnose and promptly resolve complex electrical malfunctions, short circuits, ground faults, and power outages using appropriate testing and diagnostic equipment.
- Inspect and rigorously test components of electrical systems, including transformers, circuit breakers, generators, and other electrical switchgear.
- Read, accurately interpret, and work from blueprints, schematics, and detailed electrical diagrams to determine precise wiring layouts, equipment locations, and system requirements.
- Ensure all electrical work consistently adheres to national and international electrical codes, strict safety regulations, and established company policies and procedures.
- Collaborate effectively with other maintenance staff, engineers, and various operational departments to coordinate projects, schedule maintenance activities, and ensure seamless, uninterrupted operations.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all maintenance activities, repairs performed, and material usage for inventory and historical tracking purposes.
- Respond promptly to emergency electrical calls outside of regular working hours when required, demonstrating flexibility and commitment.
- Assist in the planning and execution of electrical upgrades and new installations across the MIBA facilities.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 4 years) as a licensed or certified Electrician, preferably within an industrial, mining, or large-scale facilities environment.
- In-depth theoretical and practical knowledge of electrical systems, wiring methods, control circuits, and relevant safety procedures (e.g., Lockout/Tagout).
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, and wiring diagrams.
- Strong analytical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for identifying and rectifying complex electrical faults.
- Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as a vital part of a multidisciplinary team in a demanding and dynamic environment.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities, meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to quality workmanship.
- Physical fitness and ability to perform duties that may require lifting heavy equipment, climbing ladders and structures, and working in confined or elevated spaces.
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical diploma or advanced certification in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Electricity, Electromechanical Technology, or a closely related field.
- Experience with high-voltage distribution systems (e.g., 400V, 3.3kV, 6.6kV, 11kV) relevant to mining or heavy industry operations.
- Knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLCs), Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs), and industrial automation systems.
- Familiarity with specific local electrical codes and regulatory requirements in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
- Proficiency in French is a significant advantage for effective communication within the local workforce and with contractors.
