In this role, you will be instrumental in the design, development, and implementation of electrical systems for a diverse portfolio of projects, ranging from large-scale commercial developments to critical infrastructure. You will work alongside experienced project managers, mechanical engineers, and technicians, contributing your expertise from concept through to commissioning. Key Responsibilities
- Undertake detailed electrical design calculations, including cable sizing, circuit protection, lighting design, and power distribution systems.
- Prepare technical specifications, drawings, and reports for various electrical installations using industry-standard software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit MEP).
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams, architects, and clients to ensure integrated and coordinated project delivery.
- Conduct site surveys, inspections, and provide technical support during the construction and commissioning phases of projects.
- Ensure all electrical designs comply with British Standards (BS7671), CIBSE guidance, CDM Regulations, and other relevant industry codes.
- Evaluate new technologies and sustainable practices to incorporate energy-efficient and innovative solutions into designs.
- Assist in the preparation of project proposals, cost estimates, and risk assessments, managing project timelines effectively.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the continuous improvement of departmental processes and standards.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 3 years of post-graduate experience in electrical design within the building services, industrial, or infrastructure sectors.
- Proficiency in electrical design software such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Amtech, or Dialux.
- Strong understanding of UK electrical regulations and standards (e.g., BS 7671 IET Wiring Regulations, CDM 2015).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with a pragmatic approach.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, capable of clearly articulating complex technical information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Working towards or already holding Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with a relevant institution (e.g., IET).
- Experience with renewable energy systems, smart building technologies, critical power infrastructure, or highly regulated environments.
- Familiarity with project management principles and software (e.g., MS Project).
