Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Electrical Engineer with a strong background in power systems and a proven track record within the oil and gas industry to join our esteemed team in Ipaja, Alimosho, Lagos. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of electrical systems for various projects, ranging from large-scale power generation facilities to intricate oil and gas processing plants and infrastructure. This position demands a deep understanding of electrical engineering principles, codes, and standards, coupled with practical experience in their application within challenging industrial environments.
As an Electrical Engineer at JEDL, you will be responsible for conducting feasibility studies, preparing detailed engineering designs, developing specifications, and overseeing the installation and commissioning of electrical equipment. Your expertise will be vital in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of our power systems, from high-voltage switchgear to instrumentation and control systems. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, project managers, and clients to deliver projects on time and within budget, adhering to the highest industry standards and regulatory compliance. Key Responsibilities
- Design, analyze, and optimize electrical power distribution systems, motor control systems, and associated electrical equipment for industrial and oil & gas facilities.
- Develop detailed electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, schematics, cable schedules, and material take-offs (MTOs) using relevant software (e.g., AutoCAD, ETAP).
- Prepare technical specifications, scope of work documents, and tender packages for electrical equipment and services.
- Conduct electrical load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, and arc flash studies.
- Perform site surveys, inspections, and provide technical support during installation, commissioning, and testing phases of projects.
- Ensure all designs and installations comply with relevant industry standards (e.g., IEEE, IEC, API), codes (e.g., NEC), and safety regulations.
- Collaborate with project managers, other engineering disciplines, and contractors to ensure seamless project execution.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.
- Troubleshoot electrical issues, conduct root cause analysis, and propose effective corrective actions.
- Prepare technical reports, project documentation, and present findings to stakeholders.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in electrical engineering, with significant exposure to power systems and the oil and gas sector.
- Proficiency in electrical design software such as AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP, or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of national and international electrical codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., NEC, IEC, IEEE, API).
- Experience with HV/MV/LV switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS systems, and motor control centers (MCCs).
- Solid knowledge of power system analysis, protection schemes, and earthing/grounding systems.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities, with a focus on technical report writing.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, multidisciplinary environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Registered Engineer with COREN (Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria) or equivalent professional body.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or experience in project execution.
- Experience with hazardous area classification and intrinsically safe design principles.
- Familiarity with instrumentation and control systems (SCADA, DCS, PLC).
