Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Electrical Engineer with a strong focus on Power Systems & Maintenance to join our dynamic engineering team in Holbeck, Leeds. This pivotal role involves ensuring the reliable and efficient operation of all electrical infrastructure across our extensive facilities, critical for maintaining our distribution and operational capabilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of electrical power distribution systems, control systems, and associated equipment. You will play a crucial role in troubleshooting complex electrical issues, developing preventative maintenance strategies, and implementing improvements to enhance system reliability and energy efficiency. This includes working with high and low voltage systems, motor control centers, generators, UPS units, and industrial control panels. A significant part of the role will involve ensuring compliance with all relevant electrical safety standards, industry regulations, and company policies, conducting regular inspections, and managing documentation related to electrical schematics, maintenance records, and project specifications. You will collaborate closely with various departments, including operations, facilities management, and health & safety, to deliver seamless electrical support and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, install, maintain, and troubleshoot electrical power distribution systems, control circuits, and industrial equipment.
  • Develop and implement robust preventative maintenance programs for all electrical assets to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Perform diagnostic testing and analysis to identify root causes of electrical failures and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Ensure all electrical work complies with relevant industry standards (e.g., BS 7671 IET Wiring Regulations), safety regulations, and company policies.
  • Manage electrical projects from conception to completion, including specification, procurement, installation, and commissioning.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support operational needs, facility upgrades, and new equipment integration.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments related to electrical systems and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of electrical maintenance activities, equipment specifications, and regulatory compliance.
  • Identify opportunities for energy efficiency improvements and implement solutions to reduce operational costs.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to maintenance technicians and other operational staff.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience with industrial electrical power systems (LV and HV)
  • Strong understanding of electrical safety standards and regulations (e.g., IET Wiring Regulations BS 7671)
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals
  • Experience with motor control centers (MCCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), and programmable logic controllers (PLCs)
  • Familiarity with UPS systems, generators, and backup power solutions
  • Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for complex electrical faults
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced industrial environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards it
  • Experience with building management systems (BMS)
  • Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma principles for continuous improvement
  • Experience in a distribution or manufacturing environment
  • High Voltage (HV) authorised person qualification
