National Commercial Bank Jamaica Limited (NCB) is seeking a talented and dedicated Economist to join our dynamic team in Fellowship, Port Antonio. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in providing in-depth economic insights and forecasts that directly inform our strategic planning, financial product development, and risk management initiatives. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive economic research and analysis on local, regional, and international macroeconomic trends, interest rates, inflation, and fiscal policies.
  • Develop and maintain robust econometric models for forecasting key economic variables and their impact on NCB's financial performance and strategic objectives.
  • Prepare detailed economic reports, presentations, and policy briefs for senior management, offering insights and actionable recommendations for business planning and decision-making.
  • Collaborate with various departments, including Corporate Strategy, Treasury, and Risk Management, to integrate economic analysis into their functional areas.
  • Monitor financial markets and identify potential risks and opportunities arising from economic developments.
  • Evaluate the economic impact of new financial products, services, and regulatory changes.
  • Present findings and economic outlooks to internal stakeholders and, on occasion, external partners or public forums.

Required Skills

  • Master's degree in Economics, Finance, or a related quantitative field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in economic analysis, forecasting, or financial modeling, preferably within the financial services sector or a central bank.
  • Proven proficiency in statistical and econometric software (e.g., EViews, Stata, R, Python).
  • Strong understanding of macroeconomic theory, monetary policy, and financial market dynamics.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex economic concepts clearly.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, data-driven environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Economics or a related field.
  • Experience with financial risk modeling and stress testing.
  • Familiarity with the Jamaican and Caribbean economic landscape.
