Job Description
MAC Construction & Excavating, Inc. is urgently seeking skilled and safety-conscious Dump Truck Operators to join our growing team in Louisville, Kentucky. As a crucial member of our construction crew, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of materials such as asphalt, aggregate, dirt, and other construction-related materials to and from various job sites throughout the Louisville metropolitan area and surrounding regions. Key Responsibilities
- Operate dump trucks (including but not limited to single-axle, tandem, tri-axle, or quad-axle configurations) safely and efficiently, transporting various materials such as rock, sand, gravel, dirt, and asphalt.
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections on vehicles and equipment, meticulously documenting any defects, maintenance needs, or issues to ensure operational safety and compliance.
- Adhere strictly to all federal, state, and local traffic laws, Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, and company safety policies and procedures at all times.
- Ensure proper loading and unloading of materials, verifying accuracy of load quantities, securing it appropriately to prevent spillage or accidents, and operating tailgate controls with care.
- Maintain accurate logs, including daily mileage, fuel consumption, material tickets, and hours of service, as required by company and regulatory standards.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with supervisors, dispatchers, flaggers, and other team members regarding schedules, routes, site conditions, potential hazards, and project updates.
- Assist with general labor duties on job sites when not actively operating equipment, as needed, contributing to overall project efficiency and teamwork.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the vehicle's interior and exterior, performing basic maintenance like checking fluid levels and tire pressure.
- Report any accidents, incidents, traffic violations, or mechanical malfunctions immediately to the appropriate supervisor or dispatch, following established company protocols.
Required Skills
- Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with an excellent and clean driving record.
- Minimum 2 years (24 months) of verifiable experience operating dump trucks in a construction, hauling, or related heavy industry environment.
- Ability to perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections and execute basic vehicle maintenance checks.
- Strong understanding and adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and construction site safety procedures.
- Physical ability to perform manual labor tasks as required, including lifting, carrying, bending, and climbing, with the capacity to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Reliable attendance, strong work ethic, and a commitment to punctuality.
- Excellent spatial awareness, depth perception, and coordination to navigate challenging job site conditions and public roads.
- Ability to work effectively both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a larger construction team.
- Flexibility to work varied hours, including early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends, as dictated by project demands.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with various types of dump trucks, including tandem, tri-axle, quad-axle, and side dump configurations.
- Prior experience specifically within heavy civil construction projects, such as highways, bridges, utility infrastructure, or large-scale earthwork.
- Familiarity with local Louisville/Kentucky area roads, major transportation routes, and common construction sites.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Current Medical Examiner's Certificate (DOT Medical Card).
